Entertaining Ourselves

It's a rarity when I don't get out of the house at least once during the course of a day, and it's almost unheard of when we actually have company in town.  BUT when the snow started yesterday morning we stayed in all day & failed to even change out of our pajamas.
Better than an electric blanket.
Day 2
Between dad, Kaden and Schatzi, I'm not sure who is entertaining whom.
By today the walls were closing in (did I mention we have a small house?)
SO (dad, Kaden and I) we felt the need to drive around Amarillo.  Probably not the safest thing to do, but nobody said we were the smartest bunch... poor Kaden.
Here is a view of us driving the loop.
With all of the wind and blowing snow, I'm not sure what the final accumulation ended up being.  In some spots there were 6-8" while in other spots there were several feet.

Blizzard in Amarillo

Even as an adult I still get giddy at the possibility of a real snow and a "snow day".  I'm not talking about one of those dustings you might find on the windshield of the car in the early morning either.  A REAL snow involving fat flakes blanketing the town and everyone is forced to bunker in for the day.
I also realize that this is probably due to the fact that this rarely happens in Amarillo.
If the roads are too bad for Ben to drive to work and all of the local schools are closed, then I shouldn't feel too guilty about hanging around the house all day... Right?
Here is 11:00 a.m. and Schatzi tearing through the backyard, not sure what to make of it all.
I also feel like I need to point out the fact that this is the 2nd year in a row that David Cook (dad) has been to Amarillo when there has been a blizzard... The ONLY two serious snows in the past two years.
Coincidence?

The Best $4 I've EVER Spent

I think we have reached the infamous teething stage that I've heard so much about... and if this isn't teething, I think we might be doomed.  He is constantly sticking his fingers (and sometimes trying to get his entire fist into his mouth), drool keeps rolling down the front of his onsies, and I have begun referring to him as "Senor Crabby Pants".

Since my school checks have ceased & we have gone to only one income, I have been diligent about clipping coupons, watching ad sheets, trying to buy generic/only items that are on sale, and plain ole NOT going shopping unless completely necessary.  And though I like to think I'm doing a fantastic job of not spending money, I simply cannot help myself from cruising the baby isles on my trips to Target.  Last week I found this "Sassy Teething Ring" and I swear it's the best $4 I've spent... EVER!  He can easily grasp the ring with both hands and it keeps him entertained for up to 10 minutes.

I know I did a poor job of dressing him, but getting some coffee going was a top priority at this stage of my morning.
Entertaining himself in the car seat.
Sitting quietly with Grandma Shanny.

As of now I don't feel or see any teeth, but this new teething ring seems to be doing the trick for the time being.

Strolling Around the Park

I almost feel guilty for admitting that it was a cloudless day and it got up to about 65 degrees outside.  Apparently all we need for a great day around here is warm weather (with minimal wind) and a nice stroller.  I buckled Kaden & "monkey man" in & our spritis were immediately lifted; within 5 minutes of walking around Paramount Park, Kaden was fast asleep...

4-month pictures

Jessica Claborn, one of my best friends from high school AND the person to introduce Ben & me was in town for Christmas this year.  Luckily for us, she came over one afternoon and took several pictures of Kaden.  Here are his 4-month pictures.

The best part was that I didn't need to leave the house. I didn't realize she was taking half of them, and they turned out much better than a "professional photographer" would have taken in a studio.  I think she needs to come to town more often! (hint-hint)
