After months of considering, planning and finalizing this trip to Tanzania is HAPPENING!
📌 Saturday, August 1: caravanned to Grapevine, TX; the boys rode with their "Nonnie & Papa" while Grace rode with us. Unfortunately Norman was in San Antonio but we were able to visit with Deann while the boys wasted no time getting in the pool and taking turns with the motorized bumper boat.
Met Greg & Lauren, Andrew & Angela, along with Deann at a local Grapevine restaurant called Winewood.
It was so nice to see & visit with everyone.
So proud of the boys' behavior (don't know what I would have thought about the following day and week if they weren't able to sit through a nice meal).
because I love taking pictures of food...
📌 Sunday, August 2: more swimming in Deann & Norman's pool.
Ben let me sleep in (much appreciated)!
Deann may have had to fish Owen out of the pool at one point but no permanent harm done--
it actually may have given him a little more respect for the water.
Made it to DFW International Airport. 😜 Let the adventure begin.
1st leg/9.5-hour flight: DFW-Amsterdam.
Our seats were separated, which seemed alarming upon discovery.
Grace/my seat was near 1st class in order for us to use one of the bassinets that KLM provides for infants. I wasn't able to sit with Ben + the boys, but since Grace was a squirming hot mess (nursing & biting... damn those two new tiny teeth), this probably made the trip easier for the boys and put less stress on Ben.
Eventually the bassinet turned out to be a life (and back) saver once the sun set and she was back on her normal schedule. The boys were rocks stars back in row 40 with Ben.
Movies to watch on the back of the seat + tick-tac-toe with daddy.
Had it not been for this bassinet that Dorothy's friends told me to call ahead and reserve, I would not have had the ability to function upon arrival.
our plane from Dallas-Fort Worth to Amsterdam
8-hour time difference... making it midnight (or 8 am)...
Nothing like a remote control to play your own movie AND pizza for dinner (breakfast?).
Starting the 2nd leg of our journey from Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania.
